Powdery mildew shows up as a white, dusty coating on leaves — common on cucumbers, squash, roses and many ornamentals, especially in humid or crowded plantings. Neem oil helps both treat existing mildew and prevent it from spreading.
Why neem oil works on fungal disease
Neem has antifungal properties that interfere with how mildew spores establish and spread. It works best early and preventively — once mildew covers a leaf heavily, that leaf won’t recover, but you can stop it moving to healthy growth.
How to apply
- Remove and bin the worst-affected leaves first (don’t compost them).

- Improve airflow — space plants and prune crowded stems.
